(Kathmandu-Kodari-Nyalam-Yak Kharkha-New Dongba-

Mayumla Phedi-Manasarovar-Darchen-Dira Puk-Zuthul Puk-Paryang-Saga)

  In the far west of Tibet is Mt Kailash, the most sacred mountain in Asia, which is venerated by Buddhists, Hindus, Jains and the ancient Bon religion of Tibet. From it flow four great rivers – the Karnali, the Indus, the Sutlej and the Brahmaputra – which drain the vast Tibetan Plateau. It is an important site for Tibetan and Indian pilgrims who make a 53km circuit, or kora, of the mountain. This circumambulation, clockwise for Buddhists and Hindus and anti-clockwise for Bon followers, is said to erase the sins of a lifetime. The mountain itself is 6714m high and with its four sheer walls and snow capped peak is an awe-inspiring sight. Only 30km from Mt Kailash is another important pilgrimage site, the beautiful and serene Lake Manasarovar. According to mythology it was formed in the mind of Brahma, and Indian and Tibetan pilgrims can also be seen circumambulating this lake, a distance of 90km. On this trip, we trek from the remote Humla region of Nepal or drive all the way to Kailash through Kodari ( Nepal-Tibet border) , across the Tibetan border to visit Lake Manasarovar, before completing a kora around Mt Kailash. We then drive across the vast open spaces of the Tibetan Plateau to Zhangmu(Kodari) on the Nepalese border and continue through the lush forests of Nepal to Kathmandu. This is truly the trip of a lifetime with its remote trekking, stunning scenery and cultural highlights.

Day 1: Meet and greet on arrival at Kathmandu by Concept Voyages' representative, and transfer to hotel.

Day 2: Full Day tour of Kathmandu Valley. Sightseeing of Pashupatinath Temple- the most sacred of the Hindu temples in Nepal dedicated to Lord Shiva, built in 1696. Boudha Nath Temple- the world’s largest Buddhist stupa. Swayambhunath temple, the oldest Buddhist shrine. Looking east from here, one can see the entire Kathmandu valley spread out below. And lunch break in Kathmandu durbar square. The temple of the Living Goddess and the old Royal Palace. Finally we visit Kasthamandup, a temple built from a single tree from which the Kathmandu derives its name. And then transfer to hotel for overnight stay.
 

Day 3: Early morning drive to Kodari. After immigration and custom formalities, assisted by Concept Voyages' representative, drive uphill to Zhangmu Immigration Post. Complete custom formalities and proceed to Nyalam (3750m).152 kms, 6 -7 hrs. Overnight. at Guesthouse.
 

Day 4: Rest Day at Nyalam for acclimatization. Excursion to Milarepa's Cave, where Jetsun Milarepa - Tibet's most famous yogis and poets, a student of Marpa Lotsawa, and a major figure in the history of the Kagyu (Bka'-brgyud) school of Tibetan Buddhism meditated. Overnight stay at Guesthouse.

Day 5: Drive from Nyalam to Yak Kharkha (4675m) 240 kms, 7- 8 hrs. Overnight at Camp.

Day 6: Drive from Yak Kharka to New Dongba (4500m) 160 kms, 5-6 hrs. Overnight at Camp.

Day 7: Drive from New Dongba to Mayumla Phedi (4500m) 210 kms. 6-7 hrs. Overnight at Camp.

Day 8: Drive from Mayumla Phedi to Manasarovar (4560m) 120 kms 4-5 hrs. Overnight at Camp.

Day 9: Morning Manasarovar - which in Sanskrit means - a combination of the words Manas (mind) and Sarovar (lake) Parikarma by jeep. Evening drive to Darchen (4560m) or to Tarboche (4750m) 95 kms 2 hrs. Overnight at guest house at Darchen or Camp at Tarboche.

Day 10: Drive up to the starting point of Kailash Parikarma. Start trek to Dira Puk (4775m) 12 Kms. 6-7 hrs. Overnight at Camp.

Day 11: Continue Parikarma over Dolma La Pass to Zuthul Puk (4700m) 22 Kms. 7-8 hrs. Overnight at Camp.

Day 12: End Kailash Parikarma near Darchen (4700m). Drive to Manasarovar 14 Kms. 3-4 hrs Overnight at Camp.

Day 13: Drive to Paryang (4540 m.) - 277 Kms. 7-8 hrs. Overnight at Camp.

Day 14: Drive from Paryang to Saga (4840m.) 185 Kms 8 hr. Overnight at Camp.

Day 15: Drive from Saga to Nyalamu (3750m.) 336 Kms 6-7 hrs. Overnight at Guesthouse.

Day 16: Drive from Nyalamu to Kathmandu. 125 Kms 5-6 hrs.

Day 17: Departure transfer To Kathmandu.
