(Durban-Bhangazi-Zulu)

Day 1: Durban-Bhangazi: Meet and greet by Concept Voyages' representative and transfer from Durban and travel to Zululand - Hills, valleys, and historic battlefields. Hot and humid along the coast, cooler and wetter inland, the home of the mighty Zulu nation, and arrive at the famous Lake St Lucia with its abundance of bird life and other wildlife. Lake St Lucia was proclaimed a World Heritage Site in December 1999. We take a boat cruise on the lake where your guide will show you the world of the hippo and crocodile and the other inhabitants of the lake. We return to the village for lunch and then drive to Bhangazi camp where our adventure in the wilderness begins. We overnight at Bhangazi camp, a tented camp situated next to the picturesque Bhangazi Lake.

Days 2, 3 & 4: Bhangazi: The next three days are spent walking through the wilderness area where a host of the wild animals of Africa such as a variety of antelope - Antelopes are among the most common animals seen on safari, but there are numerous species that, to the untrained eye, can be difficult to distinguish. -Bontebok, Impala, Kudu, Puku, Springbok, Waterbuck, buffalo's - are fierce beasts, males may reach up 700 kg in weight. They live in herds and have a strong social bond. They can form groups of up to several thousand members when the environment permits and groups are organized by dominant males and females. and the endangered black Rhinoceros- are the rarest of all large mammals in Africa. Hunted to near-extinction in the 1970s and 1980s, herds have been reintroduced into select parks around the continent and are now slowing growing again. There is no difference in colour between the "Whites" and the "Blacks". The White Rhino differs from the Black Rhinoceros because of the shape of its mouth – it is wide, for cropping large swaths of grass. According to one theory, the term "White" actually comes from the Afrikaans word "weit", meaning 'wide'., may be encountered. We do canoeing on Lake St Lucia (weather permitting), traverse the highest forested dunes in the world and snorkel dive in the warm Indian Ocean (weather permitting and equipment supplied). Our overnight camp is a very basic tented camp. Your encounter with the African wilderness is of the third kind and is guaranteed to be an unforgettable experience. We return to the base camp at Bhangazi for our last night of this adventure.

Day 5: Zulu: After breakfast you meet with your Concept Voyages' guide again, and travel to an authentic Zulu village in the Zululand - Savage Splendour and the People of Heaven for demonstrations of their culture and their way of living. They offer insightful opportunities to experience living Zulu culture at first hand - township tours present the vibrancy of modern urban life, complete with 'lunch and a pint' at the local, music-fuelled shebeen...while timeless rural living is equally accessible. We see some Zulu dancing before lunch. Then we travel to Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park - The park was formed by putting together the two parks of Hluhluwe and Umfolozi in 1989 to one park of nearly 100.000 hectares. The national park offers a great diversity of animals and is optimal for game-viewing. It`s much less crowded than the Kruger National Park and has the biggest population and highest density of Rhinos of all South African parks, the oldest game reserve in Africa, for an afternoon game drive. Tonight after dinner we do a game drive with high powered spotlights in an open game viewing vehicle in search of Africa's nocturnal wild life such as the leopard or spotted hyena. Overnight at Hilltop camp.

Day 6: Durban: After an early morning rise and breakfast, we spend the rest of the morning game viewing in the reserve. Then leave the reserve in the early afternoon and return to Durban.
