Day 2 Cairo-Aswan: After breakfast proceed for visit The Great
Pyramids & Sphinx, though the three Great Pyramids are the most famous and
prominent monuments at Giza, the site has actually been a Necropolis
almost since the beginning of Pharaonic Egypt. A tomb just on the
outskirts of the Giza site dates from the reign of the First Dynasty
Pharaoh Wadj (Djet), and jar sealings discovered in a tomb in the southern
part of Giza mention the Second Dynasty Pharaoh Ninetjer. But it was the
Fourth Dynasty Pharaoh Khufu (Cheops) who placed Giza forever at the heart
of funerary devotion, a city of the dead that dwarfed the cities of the
living nearby. On its southwest diagonal is the pyramid of his son
Khephren (Chephren, Khafre). Although it is smaller, a steeper angle
results in the illusion that they are the same size. Further along the
southwest diagonal is the smallest of the three, the pyramid of Khephren's
son, Menkaure. It is also the most unusual. Visit their guardian the
Sphinx with the body of a lion and head of a human. Afternoon visit Cairo
Museum. The Egyptian museum of antiquities on display is a rare collection
of 5000 years of art the largest most precious collection of Egyptian art
in the world. Over 250,000 genuine artifacts are presented, including an
exhibit dedicated to the Tutankhamen collection of treasures, gold, and
jewelry, as it was enclosed in his tomb for over 3,500 years before it was
discovered in the 1920s when his tomb was excavated. Evening, transfer to
Cairo train station for your overnight-seated train to Aswan, and
overnight on train.
Day 3 Aswan-Nile Cruise: On arrival Concept Voyages’
representatives will meet and assist you and transfer you to Nile Cruise
terminal to board the Nile Cruise ship for 3 nights Nile Cruise. After
embarkation, lunch on board the cruise. Afternoon tour by Felucca around
Elephantine Island, the Botanical garden and the Agha Khan mausoleum.
Dinner & overnight on board cruise ship in Aswan.
Day 4 Nile Cruise: After a buffet breakfast on board, proceed with
the visits of Aswan including the high Dam, and the unfinished obelisk.
Lunch will be served on board, and sail to Kom Ombo. Visit the temple of
Kom-Ombo, dedicated for gods Sobek and Haroeris. The Temple of Kom Ombo is
an unusual double temple built during the Ptolemaic dynasty in the
Egyptian town of Kom Ombo. Some additions to it were later made during the
Roman period. The building is unique because its 'double' design meant
that there were courts, halls, sanctuaries and rooms duplicated for two
sets of gods. The southern half of the temple was dedicated to the
crocodile god Sobek, God of fertility and creator of the world with Hathor
and Khonsu. Meanwhile, the northern part of the temple was dedicated to
the falcon god Haroeris, also known as Horus the Elder, along "with
Tasenetnofret (the Good Sister, a special form of Hathor) and Panebtawy
(Lord of the Two Lands). The temple is atypical because everything is
perfectly symmetrical along the main axis. Afternoon sail to Edfu. Edfu is
an Egyptian city, located on the west bank of the Nile River between Esna
and Aswan, with a population of approximately sixty thousand people. For
the ancient history of the city. Edfu is the site of the Ptolemaic Temple
of Horus and an ancient settlement. Dinner & overnight on board cruise
ship in Edfu.
Day 5 Luxor: Buffet breakfast on board. Visit the temple of Edfu,
dedicated to the God Horus. The town is known for the major Ptolemaic
temple, built between 237 BCE to 57 BCE, into the reign of Cleopatra VII.
Of all the temple remains in Egypt, the Temple of Horus at Edfu is the
most completely preserved. Built from sandstone blocks, the huge Ptolemaic
temple was constructed over the site of a smaller New Kingdom temple,
oriented east to west, facing towards the river. The later structure faces
north to south and leaves the ruined remains of the older temple pylon to
be seen on the east side of the first court. Lunch on board during sailing
to Esna. Cross Esna lock and sail to Luxor. Dinner & overnight on board of
the cruise ship in Luxor.
Day 6 Luxor-Hurghada: After a filling buffet breakfast, disembark
from the cruise. Proceed with the visits of West bank including the two
Colossi of Memnon-known to locals as el-Colossat, or es-Salamat, are two
massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. For the past 3400 years
they have stood in the Theban necropolis, across the River Nile from the
modern city of Luxor. The twin statues depict Amenhotep III (fl. 15th
century BC) in a seated position, his hands resting on his knees and his
gaze facing eastwards (actually SSE in modern bearings) towards the river.
Two shorter figures are carved into the front throne alongside his legs:
these are his wife Tiy and mother Mutemwiya. The side panels depict the
Nile god Hapy. The statues are made from blocks of quartzite sandstone
which was stone quarried at el-Gabal el-Ahmar (near modern-day Cairo) and
transported 420 miles overland to Thebes. (They are too heavy to have been
transported upstream on the Nile.) The blocks used by later Roman
engineers to reconstruct the eastern colossus may have come from Edfu
(north of Aswan). Including the stone platforms on which they stand (about
4 meters themselves), the colossi reach a towering 18 metres (approx. 60
ft) in height and weigh an estimated 700 tons each. The temple of Queen
Hatshepsut at Deir El-Bahari and Valley of kings. The Temple of Deir El-Bahri
is one of the most characteristic temples in the whole of Egypt, due to
its design and decorations. It was built of limestone, not sandstone like
most of the other funerary temples of the New Kingdom period. It is
thought that Senimut, the genius architect who built this Temple, was
inspired in his design by the plan of the neighboring mortuary Temple of
the 12th Dynasty King, Neb-Hept-Re. The Temple was built for the great
Queen Hatshepsut (18th Dynasty), to commemorate her achievements and to
serve as a funerary Temple for her, as well as a sanctuary of the God,
Amon Ra. Transfer Hurghada. Upon arrival at Hurghada, Concept Voyages'
